We have to insure that the children have sufficient tools to fulfill their classroom needs are justified. This can be a critical need. Teachers in California (and elsewhere) have a plight now that is seriously affecting the empowerment of youngsters. In California schools, there is inadequate budget money to adequately provide classroom supplies in enough quality and quantity to insure exceptional education. And for many years, many teachers have given such supplies at their own expense. Sometimes, paper, pencils, ink cartridges and yes, even books, have already been provided at the expense of the teacher!
In past years, we have seen both a Federal along with a State tax allowance that helped teachers with this particular effort. But recently the Federal and state tax breaks have been abandoned. Parent groups and others do donate supplies (I did so), however, there is still a substantial shortfall. With the explosion of class sizes, additional faculty means new (and younger) teachers… hardly able to add the responsibility of providing supplies to their own personal budgets.
Teachers spend large sums on office supply companies that, in times past, were provided by the institution Districts. The administrators are certainly not to blame… budget crunches have serious impacted their ability to maintain current instructional levels. There are several organizations across the country which can be helping, although not enough.
Late summer means looking for school supplies. Similar to their public school counterparts, families with students attending private school spend time poring over the supply lists, scouring the house for items they have and visiting a store or using the web to purchase what else is required. Each private school has its own means of working with supplies. Some charge a supply fee and after that provide everything. Others suggest families provide items for that classroom, such as computer paper or facial tissues, that will be utilized by all. Most private schools ask families to offer the supplies their children uses in the past year. Private vmhqzg also charge a textbook fee or have students purchase their own textbooks; require families to provide a uniform or clothing for his or her child that fits a dress code; and assess a transportation fee or ask families to transport students.
Strategies for Buying Private School Supplies While the supply and textbook lists will differ depending on your child’s grade level and the kind of private school these are attending, a couple of words of advice are universal. Obtain an updated set of boarding supplies from your child’s school or website. It can list specific items and sizes which will be required. For instance, you will need extra long sheets for your child’s bed or all the towels should be white, considering they are washed together in a bleach solution. Specific storage items like footlockers maybe required since dorms rooms may have small space. Electrical devices could be limited due to the wiring in a building. All personal items should be labeled permanently together with your child’s name as recommended by the school.
